Erdogan promised to bring inflation down to single digits
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey from the Justice and Development Party, who is facing the biggest political challenge of his twenty-year rule, has released his electoral statement for next month’s presidential election.
In this statement, which contains the electoral promises of the Justice and Development Party, Mr. Erdogan has promised to reduce Turkey’s soaring inflation to a single-digit figure and to restore economic growth to the country by encouraging investment.
Opponents of Mr. Erdogan consider his economic policy to be the main cause of the current runaway inflation in Turkey.
According to them, his economic viewpoint, which emphasizes keeping interest rates low for economic growth even during inflation and the devaluation of the national currency, has caused the most harm to Turkey’s economy.
Nevertheless, the electoral statement of the Justice and Development Party contains no promises about returning to more conventional economic policies.
Recent polls show that Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slightly behind Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the Republican People’s Party and the candidate of the opposition coalition.
