Erdogan: We hope the advance of opposition forces in Syria continues without issues

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, expressed hope on Friday, December 6th, that the advances of rebels opposing Bashar al-Assad in Syria would continue without any problems.

After Friday prayers, Erdogan, speaking with reporters, pointed out his approaches towards Assad for a meeting and normalization of relations in early 2024 after more than a decade of hostility, stating that he has not yet received a positive response from him.

Ankara has been supporting Syrian opposition forces seeking to overthrow Assad for years.

On Thursday, December 5th, Syrian rebels captured the strategic city of Hama, marking a significant victory in a week-long lightning advance in northern Syria and a new devastating blow to Assad.

Turkey has announced that it has had no involvement in this operation and has not supported the rebels.
