Erdogan’s new promise to repatriate Syrian refugees

A few days before the second round of the Turkish presidential elections, Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a plan to repatriate Syrian refugees to their country.

According to Turkish media, Mr. Erdogan said on Monday night, May 22, in Ankara that his government’s plan to repatriate another one million Syrian refugees is being prepared.

He told TRT Haber that the roadmap aimed at the exit of one million Syrian refugees over a two-year period and strengthening mechanisms to prevent illegal entry into Turkey is in the final stages of preparation.

According to Mr. Erdogan, 450,000 Syrian refugees have already returned to their country.
