Eruption of Mount Merapi volcano on the island of Java in Indonesia

The Indonesian Natural Disaster Management Agency announced in a statement that Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano erupted on Saturday, March 11th, sending scorching clouds up to 7 kilometers away.

The statement mentioned that residents of nearby areas have been warned to refrain from any activities in hazardous zones located within a radius of three to seven kilometers from the crater.

Indonesia, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has more volcanoes than any other country. Merapi last had a severe eruption in 2006, which resulted in the deaths of over 350 people.
