Escalation of the Garbage Accumulation Crisis on the Streets of Paris

Intensification of the Garbage Accumulation Crisis in the Streets of Paris

While Paris is known worldwide as a city of tourism, light, and beauty, recently, heaps of garbage have altered its appearance.

Officials say that following a 16-day strike by street cleaners and garbage truck drivers in Paris, about 10,000 tons of garbage have piled up in the streets of the capital. Meanwhile, waste sorting centers and the three incineration plants in Paris have also partially or completely ceased operations due to the strike.

The widespread strike among the municipal cleaning staff began after the government of Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, proposed a bill to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 for the general public and from 57 to 59 for street cleaners. According to surveys, most French people oppose such a decision.
