Eshaq Jahangiri: Sealing businesses due to hijab is not in the country’s interest

Eshaq Jahangiri, the First Vice President of Hassan Rouhani, criticized the sealing of businesses in Iran and said that these actions are not in the country’s interest.

According to the Jamaran website, Mr. Jahangiri wrote that disrupting businesses and sealing them harms this large chain and employment, and causes citizens to become worried, dissatisfied, and confused.

Mr. Jahangiri further wrote that the cost of this action, which is done to solve social and cultural problems, is an additional burden on the ailing economy of the country and the lives of the people.

He emphasized that continuing this approach, whose benefits are unclear and whose harms are obvious, is not in the country’s interest.

Studies show that with the government’s intensified programs to impose mandatory hijab on women, more than 500 business units in various cities in Iran have been sealed in just the past week.
