Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service Warns Russia is Preparing for Military Confrontation with the West

Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service warns Russia is preparing for military confrontation with the West

Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service announced on Tuesday that Russia is preparing for a military confrontation with the West within the next ten years, but strengthening the armed forces’ posture can create deterrence against it.

An increasing number of Western officials have warned about the military threat Russia poses to the eastern flank countries of NATO and have called on Europe to prepare for rearmament.

The head of Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service said this assessment is based on Russia’s plans to double the number of forces stationed along its border with some NATO members, such as Finland and the Baltic states of Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia.

Kapo Rosin, during the release ceremony of Estonia’s national security threats report, told reporters that the path Russia has chosen is a long-term confrontation, and the Kremlin is likely anticipating a potential conflict with NATO within the next decade.
