Baghai: Europe and NATO members must be accountable for their role in the war against Iran
Ismail Baghai, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacted to statements by Mark Rutte, NATO’s Secretary General, concerning the extensive use by the United States of bases and facilities located in Europe during the war with Iran, accusing European countries and NATO members of participating in these operations. Rutte had previously stated that between 4,000 to 5,000 flights were conducted from European bases in support of U.S. operations against Iran, remarks that faced reactions and denials regarding the extent of direct involvement in some European countries, including Italy. Baghai wrote on the X network that these statements, according to him, show that some European countries have played a role in political, military, or logistical support of U.S. and Israeli operations, and added that the European Union and NATO members must be accountable for this role. He also called for an investigation into the role of Mark Rutte personally and the decisions made under his responsibility related to the Iran war, saying European citizens have the right to demand explanations from their governments about the nature of support for these operations.
