Exclusive report by The Washington Post: From Turkey to Canada, the Islamic Republic offers thousands of dollars to thieves and traffickers for the assassination of dissidents
In an investigative report, The Washington Post has stated that the intelligence and security services of the Islamic Republic of Iran offer hundreds of thousands of dollars to jewel thieves, drug traffickers, and other criminals to abduct and assassinate dissidents and critics of the government.
This audio report, published on December 2, is based on government documents and interviews with 15 officials in Washington, Europe, and the Middle East.
The report claims that in the past two years, the Iranian government has increased its efforts to abduct and kill government officials, activists, and journalists around the world, including in the United States.
This report was published while some Persian-language media recently reported the murder of Mohammad Shabani in Turkey and the threat against Mehdi Hajati, an Iranian refugee residing in Turkey. Mohammad Shabani was the former head of public relations for the Shiraz municipality, and Mehdi Hajati was a former member of the Shiraz City Council. Both had come to Turkey as refugees after being arrested and serving time in prison.
