Exploitation of Nursing Students by Healthcare Centers
Several final-year nursing students have criticized what they call the exploitation of cheap labor.
They say some clinics have posted job ads targeting nursing students, with work hours from 1 PM to 8 PM, but they only pay ten thousand tomans per hour of hard work. According to these nurses, in hospitals and clinics, the tasks assigned to final-year nursing students are those of a graduated nurse. In reality, the student performs the work of a full-time nurse but receives only ten thousand tomans per hour. These students add that, in fact, with twenty days of eight-hour work, we don’t even earn two million tomans, while we are as efficient for the system as a nurse with full pay. Is this not exploitation? These nurses say that student work in clinics is different from the mandatory internships during their studies. Student work is full nursing work without any benefits. Why do healthcare centers exploit the financial needs of nursing students?
