Widespread prisoner exchange between Russia and the USA

Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal journalist, and Paul Whelan, a former American marine who were imprisoned in Russia on espionage charges, along with Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian-British politician and journalist, were released in a broad exchange between East and West.

The Turkish presidency announced the names of these three among 26 other prisoners who were from the United States, Russia, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, and Belarus, and were released in a large exchange from East to West on Thursday, August 1st.

The Turkish government report stated that 10 prisoners, including two young children, were transferred to Russia, 13 to Germany, and three to the United States.
