Faezeh Hashemi says Mahvash Sabet’s knees were broken in prison.
In an audio file recorded before Mahvash Sabet’s return to prison, Ms. Hashemi states that the knees of one of the former leaders of the Baha’i community in Iran were broken in prison.
Mahvash Sabet was arrested on July 31st last year at the start of a new wave of repression against Baha’is in Iran.
On December 20th last year, the Office of the Baha’i International Community announced in a statement that the Islamic Republic’s judiciary had sentenced Mahvash Sabet and Fariba Kamalabadi, two former leaders of the Baha’i community in Iran, to 10 years in prison for the second time.
In this audio file, Faezeh Hashemi says Mahvash describes how during interrogation, the interrogator would hit the chair, and because she was sitting facing the wall, her knees would hit the wall. Now, in prison, they have done X-rays and told her that her knees are fractured.
This is the second time Ms. Sabet has endured a 10-year prison sentence. This Baha’i citizen was released from prison on September 18, 2017, after completing her first sentence.
