Failure of the Youth Population Plan in Iran

The newspaper Farheekhtegan, which is close to the conservatives, reported on the failure of the Youth Population Plan in Iran, citing a decrease in population growth rate, a reduction in the number of marriages, an increase in divorce cases, a decline in births and fertility rate, a rise in the number of elderly people, and an increase in the number of infertile couples.

In 2020, the Islamic Consultative Assembly passed a plan called ‘Youth Population and Family Support’ that emphasized promoting marriage and childbearing. The plan stressed the elimination of screening, the prohibition of abortion, and the distribution and sale of contraceptives.

Iran’s population is aging, and Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has emphasized the need to increase the population and warned about the dangers of a declining young population.

In its report today, the newspaper Farheekhtegan wrote that the number of births in the first nine months of 2022, after the implementation of this plan, has significantly decreased.
