Farewell ceremony for the former head of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran

Rasoul Mousavi, Director General of South Asia at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, announced through the release of photos that a ceremony was held to mark the end of Abdul Qayoum Sulaimani’s mission as the former head of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran by this country’s Foreign Ministry.

He wrote on his Twitter that diplomats come and go, but the essence of relations between countries and their people must remain.

He added that friendly relations with Afghanistan continue unchanged and within the defined framework in line with the interests of the people of both countries.

Two days ago, Iran’s Foreign Ministry handed over the Afghan Embassy in Tehran to Taliban representatives, although it stated that this matter is an internal issue related to Afghanistan. A day before that, Mr. Sulaimani and about 15 other diplomats from this embassy said they handed over the embassy keys to the Foreign Ministry and are unwilling to work with the Taliban.

Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, appointed by the Taliban as the head of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, along with 7 new diplomats sent by the Taliban, have started their work, and the Taliban have stated that the embassy’s activities are proceeding as usual.
