Farhat Popalzai, a women’s rights activist in Kabul, was arrested.
A source confirmed to the BBC that Farhat Popalzai, a women’s rights activist in Kabul, has been detained by the Taliban. Ms. Popalzai, who is 23 years old, is one of the first women to protest after the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan last year.
Last Thursday, the Taliban arrested Zarifa Yaqubi, another women’s rights activist in Kabul, along with her four male colleagues in the west of Kabul. Despite widespread international concern, there is still no information about her and her colleagues’ fate. The Taliban spokesmen have also not commented on Ms. Popalzai’s arrest so far.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban government’s spokesman, said a few days ago in response to a question about the arrest of female protesters that unauthorized protests are not allowed and added that they receive orders from outside and are told to protest to create distrust.
