Farzaneh Fasihi, the Asian record holder in running, was not allowed to participate in the World Championships

Farzaneh Fasihi, the Asian sprint record holder, was not allowed to participate in the World Championships.

Farzaneh Fasihi, the gold medalist and record holder in the Asian Women’s Sprint Championships, announced on her Instagram that she cannot participate in the World Championships. Last week, Ms. Fasihi managed to break the Asian women’s indoor 60-meter record with a time of 7.20 seconds and won the gold medal.

The acting secretary of the Iranian Athletics Federation cited the non-issuance of a visa as the reason for Fasihi’s absence from the World Championships in Glasgow, UK. In an interview with ISNA, Mashhadiyari said the issue was the visa, which was not issued. The British embassy was supposed to issue the visa, but it has its own problems.

In a video released last year after Ms. Fasihi’s championship, it was seen that she emotionally dedicated her victory to the people of Iran, saying it was only for the people of Iran, for their happiness. In these competitions, she did not sing the national anthem and dedicated her medal to the people of Iran.
