Fatemeh Sepehri's 18-Year Prison Sentence Confirmed

Fatemeh Sepahri’s 18-year prison sentence has been confirmed

The appeals court in Mashhad has confirmed the 18-year prison sentence for Fatemeh Sepahri, a political activist opposing the Islamic Republic’s government in Iran.

Asghar Sepahri, the brother of this political activist, wrote in a post on his Twitter account, quoting Ms. Sepahri’s lawyer, that the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad did not accept the representation of the lawyer appointed by Ms. Sepahri. Due to the lack of an appeal against the initial verdict, which was issued about a month ago, this sentence became final on March 12, 2023, and the maximum punishment is enforceable.

Ms. Sepahri is among the Iranian political activists who speaks openly against Ayatollah Khamenei. In 2019, she, along with several other critics of the Iranian government, stated in an open letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that he is the main problem in Iran and asked him to step down.
