Father of a Baloch Student Attempts Self-Immolation Over Child's Enrollment Issues

Attempted self-immolation by a Baloch student’s father over his child’s enrollment issue

The Halwash news agency, which covers news related to Sistan and Baluchestan Province, reported an attempted self-immolation by the father of a Baloch student at the Department of Education in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to Halwash, the father’s self-immolation attempt occurred on Tuesday, September 20, after multiple visits to a school in Mehrshahr, Zahedan, to enroll his child, and repeated, baseless refusals by the school’s administrators.

In its report, Halwash noted that the father’s request to meet with the Head of the Provincial Department of Education was also denied. It wrote that on Tuesday morning, he went to the building of the Department of Education in Sistan and Baluchestan, poured gasoline on himself, and intended to set himself on fire, but quick actions by those present prevented this.

Halwash has previously published reports about the non-enrollment of Baloch students in schools.
