Fire at the Kursk nuclear power plant after Ukraine’s attack

On Sunday, August 24, Ukraine launched a new wave of drone attacks against Russia coinciding with its Independence Day, which led to a fire at the Kursk nuclear power plant.

Local Russian officials announced that the fire has been contained and no increase in radiation levels has been reported.

These developments occurred amidst recent diplomatic efforts for peace, including an initiative by U.S. President Donald Trump to hold a summit between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, which have so far failed.

On Friday, Moscow announced that a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky is not on the agenda for the near future.

In his Independence Day speech on Sunday, August 24, Ukrainian President Zelensky said this is how Ukraine strikes when its calls for peace are ignored.

Ukraine is not a victim, it is a fighter.

At the same time, world leaders including the President of China, the King of Britain, the Pope, and Donald Trump sent congratulatory messages to Ukraine.
