Fire at Migrant Holding Center on the Mexico-US Border

Mexican media reported on Tuesday that several dozen people lost their lives in a fire incident last night at a migrant detention center in a Mexican city on the border with the US state of Texas. It is said that about 70 migrants, mostly Venezuelans, were present at the site.

According to new US laws, migrants who enter the United States illegally from the border will no longer be eligible for asylum. Instead, they must first register their application from a third country or online. Each month, about 200,000 people try to enter US territory from the Mexican border.
