First Conversation Between Putin and Ebrahim Raisi After Iran's Attack on Israel

Putin’s first conversation with Ebrahim Raisi after Iran’s attack on Israel

On Tuesday afternoon, April 16th, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, had a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi. According to the Kremlin’s press service statement, Putin called on all parties to exercise restraint during this conversation.

This is Putin’s first conversation with Raisi following Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel.

The Kremlin statement also mentions that Putin expressed hope that a new round of conflicts would not arise and described the escalation and spread of tensions and conflicts as potentially disastrous for the entire region.

In response, the Iranian President emphasized that the missile and drone strike on Israel was a limited attack in response to the airstrike by Israel on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, and Tehran has no desire to further escalate tensions.

The Kremlin’s press service statement further noted that Putin and Raisi stressed that the main reason for the current events in the Middle East is the unresolved conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
