Following the Amputation of Three Prisoners' Fingers in Urmia Prison, Amnesty International Labels Iran's Judiciary as a Cog in the Torture Machine

Following the amputation of the fingers of three prisoners in Urmia prison, Amnesty International called the Iranian judiciary a cog in the torture machine.

Amnesty International announced in a statement the execution of the punishment of finger amputation for three prisoners in Urmia prison and strongly objected to this action, calling the judiciary of the Islamic Republic a cog in the torture machine in Iran.

Since the beginning of the current year, human rights organizations had warned that the Islamic Republic of Iran was preparing to carry out the punishment of finger amputation for three male prisoners in Urmia prison.

In this context, Human Rights Watch reported that execution officials in the central prison of Urmia in West Azerbaijan province summoned Hadi Rostami, 38 years old, Mehdi Sharifian, 42 years old, and Mehdi Shahivand, 29 years old, on the 23rd of Esfand last year and gave them letters from the prosecution authorities. According to these letters, their sentences were to be executed after the 22nd of Farvardin.

Amnesty International stated in its declaration that on Wednesday, the 8th of Mordad, the prison authorities took these three prisoners to the execution chamber and carried out the finger amputation sentence at midnight.
