Former Chief of Staff of Hassan Rouhani Has No Intention to Run in Parliamentary Elections

The former chief of staff of Hassan Rouhani says Rouhani does not intend to participate in the parliamentary elections

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff during Hassan Rouhani’s presidency, told the news site Rouydad 24 that the former president of Iran does not intend to participate in the parliamentary elections.

Mr. Vaezi said, ‘I find it unlikely that he would want to enter the parliamentary elections, and so far, I have not heard any talk about this matter.’

Media outlets close to Ebrahim Raisi’s government and the Revolutionary Guards have recently raised the issue of Hassan Rouhani’s participation in the Islamic Consultative Assembly elections.

For instance, the Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, wrote that the former president has initiated his entry into the upcoming parliamentary elections and intends to act as the central figure of a political movement for participation in the elections.
