Former MP: Marriage of an 11-year-old girl with father’s consent is legal

Tayebeh Siavoshi, former member of parliament, mentioned the bill known as the enhancement of women’s security and said that according to article 1041 of this bill, the marriage of a 12-year-old girl with the father’s consent is legally conducted.

The physical and psychological harms resulting from marriage in childhood inflict irreparable damage on the lives of these children. Pregnancies under the age of 18, maternal mortality, depression, suicide attempts, divorce, dropping out of school, and the perpetuation of the cycle of cultural and economic poverty are among these harms.
