France’s Reaction to Kanaani’s Remarks About the Arrest of Its Citizens

The spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry stated that the remarks by his Iranian counterpart regarding the French citizens imprisoned in Iran clearly confirmed that their detention was arbitrary.

Anne-Claire Legendre said on Tuesday, March 14, that this is a confirmation from Iranian officials and it violates the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, which is the foundation of diplomatic relations between countries.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, had said a day earlier regarding the French citizens imprisoned in Iran that the French government has taken an interventionist approach concerning recent developments in Iran, and the continuation of these positions cannot be helpful in the matter of the prisoners.
