The Group of Seven statement triggers mechanism as a result of Iran’s non-compliance with the JCPOA
On the evening of Wednesday, September 30th, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries issued a statement welcoming the return of UN sanctions, describing the activation of the trigger mechanism against the Islamic Republic as a result of the Iranian government’s continuous non-compliance with its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
According to this statement, Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, the United States, and Canada committed to reinstating the sanctions and restrictions imposed by United Nations Security Council resolutions against the Islamic Republic as UN members.
The member countries of the Group of Seven also declared that diplomacy remains essential, urging the Islamic Republic to refrain from any provocative actions, to immediately enter direct negotiations with the United States, and to make significant progress towards fully fulfilling its nuclear non-proliferation commitments.
