The Group of Seven’s stance is that the normalization of relations with the global community is conditional on the Taliban’s actions.
Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, tweeted that during the meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in Japan, we agreed that the normalization of relations with the global community, which the Taliban seeks, is conditional on their actions.
In the statement from the meeting of the foreign ministers of the seven industrial powers known as the G7, the Taliban have been urged to immediately reverse their decisions regarding the ban on women’s work and education, especially in UN agencies.
The statement from the G7 foreign ministers reads: We call for the immediate reversal of the unacceptable decisions by the Taliban government that restrict human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the latest bans preventing Afghan women from working for NGOs and the United Nations.
The statement also criticizes the systematic violations of women’s and girls’ human rights and the discrimination against members of religious and ethnic minorities under the Taliban government.
