Gasoline Crisis in Iran

According to an official report from the Ministry of Oil, the imbalance in gasoline in Iran began in the summer of last year, and by the beginning of February, the government was forced to release one-third of the country’s strategic gasoline reserves into the market.

Based on this report, in the first 10 months of this year, the average daily gasoline consumption in the country was about 103 million liters, but in January alone, this figure reached nearly 106 million liters.

Overall, in the first 10 months of last year, gasoline consumption in the country increased by about 19% compared to the same period in 2021, and to supply the market, the government was forced to not only mix petrochemical products with the base gasoline produced by refineries but also to introduce about 440 million liters from its strategic gasoline reserves into the market, which is equivalent to one-third of Iran’s total strategic gasoline reserves.
