Gasoline prices on the verge of rising – City Hall Newspaper: How long will the government maintain the current gasoline price?
Hamshahri Newspaper wrote: The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company denied the rumor of a gasoline price increase, stating that a price increase is not on their agenda and these rumors are completely false.
It is clear that the mentioned company is not the decision-maker regarding the pricing of oil products, including gasoline, and is only an executor of government decisions. Therefore, the denial of the gasoline price increase rumor by the executing company is not based on any foundation.
However, the question remains: if there is an increase in the imbalance between gasoline production and consumption, what will be the policy of the government and the Ministry of Oil? How long can they maintain gasoline at the current price, and will this decision be able to curb the increasing consumption?
Experience has shown that both long-term price stabilization policies are indefensible, and price shock policies do not work. It seems that to solve the gasoline dilemma, we must distance ourselves from mistakes and short-term views and inform the public about the situation and the future imbalance between supply and consumption before making any decisions. If there is to be a price correction, it must be clarified what clear policy will be implemented to prevent the consumption trend and reduce fuel usage in vehicles. Until this puzzle is solved, any policy will be temporary, and relying on it will not prevent consumption.
