The Gaza War and the Silence of Ahmadinejad and Jalili
The Gaza War and the Silence of Ahmadinejad and Jalili: According to Iran Gate, more than 20 days have passed since the start of the Gaza war following Hamas’s attack on the occupied territories, yet there has been no stance from hardliners like Ahmadinejad and Saeed Jalili. These figures, who in past years have deafened the world with their claims of the Holocaust being a lie and their anti-Israel rhetoric, are now completely silent as the situation has escalated to war and conflict.
The Gaza war has intensified under conditions where many believe that a ceasefire in the near future is unlikely. The situation is worsening, and the death toll on both sides has surpassed 9,000, although Israel’s share of the casualties is less than 1,400. However, these figures are unprecedented for both parties involved.
The important point here is that despite the killing of over 8,000 Palestinians due to Israeli air and missile attacks, many prominent revolutionary and hardline figures have not made the slightest statement condemning the Tel Aviv regime. What is the reason for the silence of notable individuals like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Saeed Jalili regarding the Gaza war, and why is there no sound from this faction?
From Guatemala to Velenjak
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad embarked on a trip to Guatemala precisely on the day when only a few hours remained until Hamas militants attacked the occupied territories. This trip, surrounded by much controversy and carried out despite opposition from security agencies, was pursued with the historical persistence known from Ahmadinejad. It remains unclear what the purpose of this trip was and why security authorities allowed Ahmadinejad to jeopardize Iran’s interests.
He currently has several offices in Tehran, and Iran Gate has exposed the corruption present in Ahmadinejad’s Velenjak office in a revealing report. This corruption, which has been ongoing under the guise of Raisi’s revolutionary government, raises questions about why there has been no action against him and his anti-national activities.
This silence is occurring despite the fact that during his presidency, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cost the country dearly by raising the issue of the Holocaust being a lie. These statements were made while many wise individuals in the country opposed them, and although they were hostile to Israel, they saw Ahmadinejad as aligning with the interests of the most right-wing political factions in Israel.
Ironically, this came to pass, and Netanyahu’s ultra-right government came to power as a result of Ahmadinejad’s positions, making the situation for Palestinians more constrained than ever. Additionally, the process of Israeli settlement construction in the occupied territories increased unprecedentedly during Ahmadinejad’s tenure, and Israel was able to gain international consensus in favor of unregulated settlement building.
Just the JCPOA
To describe Saeed Jalili’s political persona and public actions, one could use the term ‘anti-Americanism.’ In the past two years since Ebrahim Raisi’s government came to power, he has had nothing new to say except opposing the JCPOA and chanting anti-Western slogans. However, the interesting point is why Jalili and his followers, who claim to lead the opposition to the West, have shown no reaction to Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip and the killing of about 8,000 Palestinians.
This is despite the fact that the issue of Israel is one of the main emphases of the anti-Western discourse of the so-called Stability Front, of which Saeed Jalili is a godfather. In fact, Jalili has remained silent when every anti-Western political activist tries to use it as the best opportunity to promote their desired discourse. However, Jalili’s and his associates’ performance in this matter raises the question of whether the stance of defending the Palestinian people is a political tool in the hands of this group or truly an unchanging belief that should be considered by activists associated with this faction in all circumstances.
Don’t Drink Pepsi
This heavy and graveyard-like silence of prominent super-revolutionary figures is occurring while the state media and some outlets affiliated with this faction have begun accusing reformists, who these days are unequivocally condemning Israel, of also criticizing Hamas. Third-rate media figures like a host on Ofogh TV, who claimed that Coca-Cola and Pepsi produced in Iran are owned by Jews and should not be bought or sold, have taken up the banner of excommunicating moderate and reformist figures.
But as Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said on the ‘To the Horizon of Palestine’ program on Ofogh TV, addressing the same host, ‘We should prick ourselves with a needle and others with a spike.’ It would be better for the super-revolutionaries to consider why they have not yet succeeded in getting any of their key figures, including Ahmadinejad and Jalili, to appear on camera to condemn the Israeli regime, especially when almost all political factions in the country, both right and left, are concerned about the disaster unfolding these days in the Gaza Strip.
