Gazprom and its Role in Combating Climate Change in Germany
Financial documents of Germany’s Climate Change Foundation, which were published due to legal requirements, indicate that environmental activists who strive to fight the increase in production and consumption of fossil fuels and have campaigned extensively for the cleanup of seas and ports from LNG import terminals, have received nearly 200 million euros in charitable donations from Gazprom.
At first glance, this seems like a positive step from the Russians, but in reality, this assistance aims to create a serious obstacle to Germany’s import of natural gas, keeping it reliant on gas imports from Russia.
