The U.S. House of Representatives voted 311 to 114 in favor of removing Republican Representative George Santos from Congress
Mr. Santos is facing more than twenty federal charges, including fraud, money laundering, and theft of public funds, and since entering Congress late last year, he has been accused of lying about his background
He, who left the Congressional building quickly on Friday just minutes before the voting result was announced in the House of Representatives, claims that he has been a victim of bullying by Congress members
Mr. Santos had previously admitted to lying about his education and work history
Since these allegations were raised, he has faced increasing calls to resign from Congress membership, including from Republican politicians, but he repeatedly responded that he was determined to complete his term
