The German Ambassador’s Farewell from Iran: Visa Issuance Will Decrease Due to Recent Developments

The German Embassy in Iran released a video of Markus Potzel, the German Ambassador in Tehran, on their Instagram account today, August 22, 2025, in which Mr. Potzel, speaking in Persian, bids farewell due to the end of his mission in Iran and provides explanations regarding the reasons for the reduction in his embassy’s activities.

The German Ambassador states that one of the reasons for this reduction is the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, and he mentions that the number of German consulate staff in Iran has decreased, and we do not have the capacity to issue the same number of visas.

This means the number of visas we issue will decrease.

It will be much less.

The German Embassy in Tehran announced in June this year, three days after Israel’s attack on Iran, that it would be closed to visitors until further notice.
