Germany asked its citizens to leave Iran
The German government extended the travel ban for its citizens to Iran and asked Germans residing in Iran to leave the country.
The spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry warned on Friday, November 3, that German citizens in Iran are at risk of being taken hostage by the Islamic Republic.
The spokesperson stated that the German government suspects that following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German citizen residing in the United States, the Islamic Republic might take German citizens in the country hostage, adding that Germany wants to prevent its other citizens in Iran from meeting a similar fate.
Following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd on October 29 by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, the German government closed all three Iranian consulates in the country.
The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic considered the German Foreign Ministry’s order to close the Iranian consulates in Germany as a sanction against Iranians.
