The highest honor of Germany is awarded to Angela Merkel

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, is giving the Medal of Honor for Special Achievement to Angela Merkel, the former Chancellor of the country, making her the third German politician in this position to receive such a medal.

According to the Press Association, Olaf Scholz, the current Chancellor of Germany, is set to attend today’s ceremony.

Two other former Chancellors, Konrad Adenauer, the first leader of West Germany, and Helmut Kohl, who led the reunification of Germany, received this Medal of Honor.
