Awarding Germany’s Highest Special Honor to Angela Merkel

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive the highest level of special honor in Germany at a ceremony on April 17th.

Angela Merkel, after Konrad Adenauer and Helmut Kohl, is the third German chancellor to receive this special honor. Merkel, who held the position of chancellor from 2005 to 2021, will be honored with the Grand Cross of Merit.

News reports indicate that Merkel’s family, as well as a group of politicians and government employees who worked with her, will attend the award ceremony. Former football player Jürgen Klinsmann is among those expected to be invited to the April 17th commemoration.
