GPS Disruption in Iran and Office Closures Have Increased Snap Fares

GPS disruption in Iran and the closure of offices have led to an increase in Snapp fares.

Users who use Snapp as an online taxi service have reported a several-fold increase in the cost of their trips in recent days.

Snapp, in response to inquiries from Shargh, stated that the change in traffic patterns in the days leading up to the upcoming holidays and the disruption in GPS, which has caused problems for driver users and reduced their activity, are the reasons for this temporary price increase.

Farid Shahabi, Snapp’s commercial deputy, explained to Shargh that firstly, the traffic pattern of citizens undergoes significant changes on working days before and after holidays. According to Snapp’s data, the reduction in the number of working days during this period causes people to carry out their daily tasks in a more limited time.

According to him, this congestion has both increased the volume of movements and led to more crowded streets.

He emphasizes that the simultaneous increase in travel demand and intensified traffic have both impacted Snapp’s travel rates.

Shahabi also does not dismiss the impact of GPS disruptions in this context and explains that recent GPS disruptions have created routing issues, leading to a decrease in activity among some driver users.

This issue places additional pressure on the fleet of online taxis.

Considering the dynamic pricing mechanism, a decrease in supply under conditions where demand is also rising leads to price increases.
