Finland grants asylum to Afghan women and girls

The Finnish Immigration Service has announced that due to the worsening situation of women’s rights and freedoms since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, all Afghan women and girls seeking asylum in the country will be granted asylum.

According to Finnish media, the country’s Immigration Service has updated its guidelines regarding the handling of applications submitted by Afghans to incorporate this new change.

After Sweden and Denmark, Finland is the third country to announce such a decision. This recent move aligns with the latest report published by the European Union Agency for Asylum.

In addition, the Finnish Immigration Service has updated its guidelines on handling applications submitted by Afghans of Hazara ethnicity, as the recent report by the European Union Agency for Asylum states that the vulnerability of Hazaras in Afghanistan has worsened due to ISIS attacks.
