Grossi asked Iran for an explanation about the tunnels built around the Natanz nuclear site.
Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in response to the ISIS report, asked Tehran to provide explanations about the tunnels built around the Natanz nuclear site.
Grossi, who has traveled to Washington, told reporters on Wednesday that he has repeatedly raised the issue of the tunnels with Tehran officials and added, ‘We ask them what this is for, and they say it’s none of your business.’
Grossi, who also traveled to Tehran last week, emphasized that all countries are obliged to inform the Agency of their intentions regarding facilities around nuclear sites, but Iran holds a unique position in the world and believes there is no need to inform the Agency in advance.
He also reiterated that Iran does not have nuclear weapons but added that the possibility that these tunnels could be used to store undeclared materials cannot be ruled out.
The Institute for Science and International Security, based in Washington, has reported that Tehran is creating a massive security fence around two deep tunnel complexes related to the main Natanz nuclear facilities.
