Grossi remains as the Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency

Rafael Grossi has been elected for a second time as the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency for a four-year term

This decision came after the members of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency verbally agreed to his reappointment as Director General, and no voting was conducted for his retention in this position. The verbal endorsement of the members regarding his appointment was accompanied by praise and admiration for his tenure.

However, this decision is subject to the formal approval of the agency at the annual meeting with all members present in the fall of 2023.

Mr. Grossi’s current term as president ends in December this year.

His first term was a tumultuous period for the agency. Over the past three years, the Islamic Republic decided to gradually violate its commitments under the 2015 nuclear agreement known as the JCPOA. Now, after three years, Iran’s steps have gone much further, and the Islamic Republic has effectively exited the JCPOA.
