Grossi Warns About the Possibility of a Nuclear Disaster in Ukraine

Grossi warned about the possibility of a nuclear disaster in Ukraine

As Russia resumed missile strikes on Ukraine in recent hours, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, called for immediate action to prevent a nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, located in southern Ukraine in areas occupied by Russia.

Ukrainian officials say that Russia has launched a series of new missile attacks across Ukraine, targeting residential buildings and infrastructure in Kharkiv and Odessa. According to Ukrainian officials, these attacks have caused power outages in several areas.

Rafael Grossi’s statements came after renewed shelling cut off the only remaining power line to the plant, which supplied the necessary electricity to cool radioactive materials at the facility.

The Director General of the Agency stated that this is the sixth time since the Russian invasion that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the largest of its kind in Europe, has lost its power supply.

With the power cut, the plant has been forced to use emergency power generators.
