Guardian Council Spokesperson: No Penalty for Not Voting in Elections

The spokesperson for the Guardian Council: We have no punishment for not voting in elections

The spokesperson for the Guardian Council said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is founded on the will of the people and proudly has held an average of one election each year over the past 45 years.

In response to a question about free elections, he said that according to legal standards, free elections are competitive with a variety of approaches. It seems that all the elements of free elections are present in the elections of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and unlike some countries, voting is not mandatory in our country, and there is no punishment for not voting.

Tahan Nazif, in response to another question about voting by Iranians abroad in the March 11 elections, said that for presidential elections, voting is conducted abroad; however, for parliamentary elections, since they are held regionally, naturally, it is not possible for Iranians abroad to vote.
