Guterres: Restraint Alone is Not Enough, Efforts Must be Made to Reduce Tensions

Guterres: Restraint alone is not enough; efforts must be made to reduce tensions.

Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, on Thursday, August 2nd, described the recent attacks in the Golan Heights, Beirut, and Tehran as a dangerous escalation of tensions and urged all parties to show maximum restraint.

In a statement published on social media, Guterres wrote that while all efforts should be focused on a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all Israeli hostages, and increasing humanitarian aid, the attacks in the Golan, Beirut, and Tehran are a dangerous escalation of tensions.

He further called on the international community to use diplomatic measures to prevent any action that could marginalize the entire Middle East and wrote: I have consistently called for maximum restraint; however, it is increasingly clear that restraint alone is not sufficient at this critical time. I urge everyone to work intensively towards reducing regional tensions for the sake of long-term peace and stability for all.
