On the eve of the anniversary of the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of the risk of escalation and the use of nuclear weapons.
António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, warned on the evening of Wednesday, February 22, March 23, at the opening of the extraordinary session of the UN General Assembly about the risk of the war expanding and the use of nuclear weapons.
In his speech at the opening of this session, he said, over the past year, we have not only witnessed increased pain and destruction, but it is becoming increasingly clear that the situation could deteriorate much further.
The UN Secretary-General, referring to various dangers, stated, we have heard implicit threats regarding the use of nuclear weapons. The tactical use of nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable.
Guterres, referring to the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said his country would use nuclear weapons if placed in a threatening position, emphasized that now we must quickly step back from the brink.
