Hamas is ready to hand over the administration of Gaza after the war
Hazem Qassem, the spokesperson for Hamas, announced on Friday, October 9, that the movement is committed to fully implementing the first phase of the ceasefire agreement with Israel and is ready to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip after the war ends.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Qassem said that some stages of the proposed plan by U.S. President Donald Trump still require review with mediators, but Hamas has started implementing the first phase and is cooperating with all parties to maintain the ceasefire.
He added that Hamas is ready to step aside from any executive or administrative role in Gaza to create a stable ground to prevent the return of war.
Qassem emphasized that Hamas does not want to give Israel any excuse to resume conflicts and has received assurances from mediators regarding Trump’s plan and preventing the return of conflicts.
The Hamas spokesperson, referring to the issue of disarmament of the group, said this matter will be discussed within the framework of internal Palestinian dialogues. He described Hamas’s weapons as a legitimate defensive tool and added that the group has a national responsibility to strive for finding an appropriate solution in this regard.
Qassem also called on the Palestinian Authority officials to offer political solutions for the future of Gaza and appreciated the significant efforts of the U.S. President to implement this agreement.
He further reported on Israel’s strictness regarding the names of some Palestinian prisoners and the existing difficulties in searching for the bodies of Israeli hostages, and said that Hamas’s local committees in Gaza are organizing the return of refugees.
Qassem added that Gaza has turned into a devastated land after the war, and the Palestinian people will not allow any plan for their forced displacement to be implemented.
Meanwhile, Palestinian sources told Al Arabiya that a comprehensive meeting is set to be held soon in Cairo with the presence of most Palestinian groups, including Fatah and Hamas, to decide on the future of the Gaza Strip and to end political differences.
The aim of this meeting is to plan for the post-war period and to discuss the future of the Palestinian issue.
