Head Coach of Spain Women's National Football Team Dismissed

The head coach of the Spanish women’s national football team has been dismissed

The Spanish Football Federation has fired Jorge Vilda, the head coach of the country’s women’s national football team. He was a close ally and friend of Luis Rubiales, the suspended president of the Spanish Federation, who faced widespread criticism for kissing the lips of Jenni Hermoso, a national team player, during the World Cup victory celebration.

Most of Mr. Vilda’s coaching staff have resigned, and 81 players have stated that they are not willing to play for Spain following that incident.

Mr. Rubiales does not accept that he did anything wrong and has refused to resign, although FIFA has currently suspended him. Meanwhile, Pedro Rocha, the interim president of the federation, issued a letter stating that Rubiales’ behavior was unacceptable and apologized.

The Spanish Football Federation did not announce the reason for Mr. Vilda’s dismissal and in its statement, referred to him as a promoter of respectful values and sportsmanship in football.
