Head of Agricultural Trade Union: Three Times the Country's Rice Needs Have Been Imported

The head of the Agricultural Trade Union: Three times the country’s rice needs have been imported.

According to official Iranian media, Qasem Pishahvar, the head of the Agricultural Trade Union, announced that in recent years, three times the country’s rice needs have been imported.

Qasem Pishahvar stated that according to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, we annually need 500,000 to 600,000 tons of rice for strategic reserves. Unfortunately, in recent years, 1.7 million to 2 million tons of rice have been imported into the country.

Based on this report, the excessive importation of this product, beyond the actual needs of the country, has led local rice farmers to protest due to their inability to sell their products and the risk of them spoiling.
