Head of Environmental Organization Claims Lake Urmia Level Drop is False

The head of the Environmental Protection Organization claims that the decline in Lake Urmia’s level is false.

The head of the Environmental Protection Organization reported an increase in Lake Urmia’s level this year compared to June 2021.

Ali Salajegheh responded to some news regarding statistics attributed to the Lake Urmia Restoration Headquarters about the lake’s level, stating that the statistics circulating on social media by self-proclaimed environmental advocates are completely false. The latest statistics announced yesterday show that the lake’s level has increased compared to June 6, 2021.

The head of the Environmental Protection Organization concluded by stating that the current condition of Lake Urmia is suitable and acceptable, and the declining trend has been halted. This achievement is largely due to the operational efforts of colleagues in the organization, especially the Marine and Wetlands Affairs Department, including dredging, water rights release, and the use of treatment plants in the cities of Urmia and Tabriz. We hope the situation will improve further.
