The head of the Southeast Tehran Water and Wastewater Company reports that 90% of Tehran’s water reservoir resources have been depleted.
Mansour Beghaei, the head of the Southeast Tehran Water and Wastewater Company, announced on Friday, August 3rd, that among the five provinces marked as red in terms of water status, Tehran’s situation is more concerning. He stated that out of the designed capacity of 250 million cubic meters, only about 23 million cubic meters of water remain in the reservoirs, and more than 90% of this capacity is empty.
This situation is the result of years of ignoring warnings about resource management.
The official added that the average rainfall in Tehran province has reached 185 millimeters, while the Southeast of Tehran is one of the least rainy areas in the country, and Tehran is among the top five provinces in terms of reduced water reserves.
Previously, the government announced a holiday in Tehran on Wednesday, August 1st, due to the continuation of extreme heat and the necessity of conserving water and electricity.
According to the government spokesperson, the government’s inability to provide electricity for citizens may lead to the continuation of mandatory holidays.
