Head of the National Cyberspace Center: Review of Filtering Policies Has Begun

The head of the National Center for Cyberspace announced that a review of filtering policies has begun.

Mohammad Amin Aghamiri, on the sidelines of the Digital Iran conference, announced that a review of filtering policies has begun, but emphasized that the quality of the network has been addressed and plans have been developed to improve its quality. He expressed hope that they will provide satisfactory quality to the people.

Aghamiri also stated in the discussion about the review of filtering that this issue has several parts. One part is related to the policies regarding filtering, which we are currently examining. All the players and decision-makers in the field have become involved, and we are reviewing it.

Regarding the issue that people cannot always use VPNs, he said they are reviewing it and have addressed the platforms needed by people before the New Year. Platforms in the gaming sector have been reviewed and changes have been made to lift their filters. We are also focusing on reviewing the blocking policies for other platforms. We are not currently dealing with the specifics of filtering; we are designing the framework that needs to be done with stakeholders. The specifics are handled by a working group composed of various members from the government, parliament, and judiciary.

In response to the question about his opinion on lifting the filters on platforms like Twitter and YouTube, Aghamiri said, ‘We will discuss this in detail in the future.’
